Soccer Fellowship Report [24th March]

The session started off with devotion [Being developed in all aspects of our life] & prayer led by John Chia. Jimmy Phuah captained the Blues, while Kevin captained the Reds. Already, it appeared that the Blues would have the edge in speed, fitness & attacking power, and the Reds, a little more experience & defensive toughness.

It was quite hot when the match started, but the pitch was slightly softer than normal as it had rained a few times during the week. The game started as with most other games- some misplaced passes & over zealous running without much off-the-ball movement nor smooth passing. It didn't take long for the 1st goal to be scored, the pacy Choo Jingzhong breaking through the Reds defence to put one pass the keeper Jeremy Tan. Before long, it was 2-0 to the Blues. Was it Jingzhog who scored again? The Reds had to find a way back and fortunately, a saviour came in the form of Rusdy. His pace, skill and shooting accuracy twice took him pass the Blues defenders and firing the Reds level with 2 well-taken goals. The Reds had 2 more opportunities to take the lead, but the chances were spurned. Half-time came with the score locked at 2-2. The 2nd half looked to be very promising.

The Reds started off the 2nd half determined to take the lead and win the match. There was good attacking play, even though they were playing with 1 less player. There were a couple of good chances, but no goals to show for the effort. Soon, the pendulum swung in the Blues favour and through speedy wing play by Jingzhong and Daniel Low, the Blues took the game to the Reds and scored goal after goal. The midfield of the Reds was unable to stop the Blues machine and through Jingzhong, Daniel and Joel Tan, the Blues put themselves up by 5 goals! The Reds could not find a way back into the match. Well done Blues!

Soccer Fellowship Report [10th March]

The session started off with devotion [Being passionate for God in the big & small things] & prayer led by Kevin Ang. He proceeded to captain the Whites, while Sheldon was appointed captain of the Blues.

The match started off under hot and dry conditions (very dry & hard ground I must emphasise). The game started to flow well and both teams practised playing with the offside rule to prepare for future competitive matches. Though not easy to judge accurately, it gave the forwards and defenders the opportunity to read situations better and make adjustments to their positional play. It took about 20 minutes for the 1st goal- Darren Tan being the forunate scorer for the Whites when the ball fortuitously spun through the hands of veteran goalkeeper Kelvin Tham. The Blues fought back with much determination and capitalised on 2 short goalkicks to take the lead within 2 minutes. Sheldon Liew being the scorer on both occasions. No more goals were scored before half-time.

The Whites started off the 2nd half trying to be a bit more disciplined and organised. Their objective was to score and not concede. Only 1 of those objectives was met. The 2nd half was played extremely well by both teams in the areas of discipline, fitness and tactics. There were many chances- Choon Heng deflecting Kevin's drive against the frame of the goal, Choon Heng scrapping the upright with his fierce drive, Mark Leong making a headed goal-line clearance from Marcus Fa's header, acrobatic saves by Kelvin & Michael Chua and Jingzhong narrowly missing the target. Alas, no goals were scored and the Blues ended the victors! Well done Blues!
