PMC Cup 2009 Futsal Tournament

The time has finally come for the 4th edition of the PMC Cup. Last year’s tournament drew 8 teams (70 players) and The Destroyers led by Justin Ang emerged Champions in 2008. Check out the results if you've forgotten where you finished.

This year’s PMC Cup will again be played Futsal-style, with 5-on-5 all action, ‘no-out’ and non-stop play. The Prize Giving Dinner will take place immediately after the tournament, and this will be BBQ-style at the East Coast BBQ Pits. Friends from the Running, Badminton & Netball Community will also join us for the BBQ to celebrate life & sports! So don’t wait, get your team together and register early!!!!

Here are the details:

Date- 24th October 2009, Saturday

Time- 4 – 10 pm (4 – 7pm tournament and 7 – 10 pm BBQ by the beach)

Venue- Sports Planet @ East Coast [same area as Waraku, Prawning Pond, Burger King & Long Beach Seafood]

Registration Fees- $50 per team (this is a nominal sum to offset the cost of Futsal pitch rental & catering for the BBQ dinner)

--> There will be prizes for the top 4 teams and door gifts for all participants!

Registration for the tournament is open from now till 5th October 2009, Monday but please do register ASAP so that we can invite teams from other churches if necessary.

Registration can be in 2 ways-

1. Team registration- Please fill in the Team Registration Form and email it to pmcsoccer@gmail.com. If you haven't received it, ask for one!

2. Individual registration- Please send an email with your name and age.

Soccer Fellowship [26th Sep]

Unfortunately, last week's '1st Soccer Fellowship in a long time' was cancelled due to a water-logged pitch. This Saturday, we're praying for good weather so that we can take the field on 26th September at East Spring Secondary School. The session will be from 3 - 5 pm.

We will split the teams according to DARK and BRIGHT jerseys for this session , so please bring BOTH just in case we need to balance the teams out.

Soccer Fellowship CANCELLED [19th Sep]

Due to inclement weather and a waterlogged pitch, Singapore Sports Council has cancelled the booking of our pitch @ East Spring Secondary. Apologies for the late notice as I was informed while I was out for lunch with no Internet access.

Soccer Fellowship [19th Sep]

After a long break due to friendlies, the MWS Tournament and Agape Cup, Soccer Fellowship resumes this Saturday, 19th September at East Spring Secondary School. The session will be from 3 - 5 pm.

Friendly Match (Soccer Community XI .vs. ECG) Report [5th Sep]

The usual hot afternoon sun greeted the players from both teams as they trod onto the field to commence the soccer match. A good turnout for our team as we had a mix of Pandas and Panthers plus a number of veteran players from CMC and 2 guest players Tim Cheong and Chris (friend of Yuen Wai).

The match kicked off punctually and saw both teams going all out for the opening goal. Play was however scrappy which saw a number of mistimed and over zealous tackles by players from both teams. Play was largely confined to midfield with each team determined to dominate play. Our opponents scored a soft goal 10 mins before half time, courtesy of a bad clearance by our Marcus which saw the ball landing perfectly for the ECG striker to place the ball beyond our keeper. Poor teamwork and communication dogged our team due to a number of new players playing together for the first time. The first half ended 1-0 in ECG`s favour who were the better side in the first half.

Changes were made by Ronnie in the second half and 6 new players were introduced to strengthen the team. Play was confined to the middle of the field and numerous fouls were committed by both sides which kept the referee busy. Against the run of play we managed to equalise late in the second half from a corner kick scored by Barry from CMC. Although normal time was up, the referee allowed an extra 10 mins of play which saw 2 penalties being awarded to ECG during this period due to mistimed tackles from our defenders. Fortunately for us both penalties were poorly taken and not converted. Our team played much better in the second half. The match ended 1 all which indeed was a fair result.

MWS 2009 Report

The team played 7 matches on the day- winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 4. Most importantly, it was a good time of fellowship and the players contributed $210 to the Methodist Welfare Services. Here are some photos of the team in action.
