PMC Cup 2010 - Registration is OPEN!

The time has come for the 5th edition of the PMC Cup. Last year’s tournament drew 8 teams (about 70 players) and Paper Airplane led by Brian Lim emerged worthy champions, defeating every single team they faced. This year’s PMC Cup will again be played Futsal-style, with 5-on-5 all action, ‘no-out’ and non-stop play. The Prize Giving Dinner will take place immediately after the tournament, and this will be BBQ-style at the East Coast BBQ Pits. Friends from the Running, Badminton & Netball Community have also been invited join us for the BBQ to celebrate life & sports! So don’t wait, get your team together and register early!!!!

Date- 30th October 2010, Saturday
Time- 3 – 9 pm (3 – 6pm tournament and 6 – 9 pm BBQ by the beach)
Venue- Sports Planet @ East Coast [same area as Waraku, Prawning Pond, Burger King & Long Beach Seafood]
Registration Fees- $50 per team (this is a nominal sum to offset the cost of Futsal pitch rental & catering for the BBQ dinner)
--> There will be prizes for the top 4 teams and door gifts for all participants!
Registration for the tournament is open from now till 9th October 2010, Saturday but please do register ASAP as we will close registration once the maximum of 8 teams has been reached.

Agape Cup SoccerTron (18th August) Report
After a 3-week break, the Agape Cup SoccerTron resumed with 11 players competing for the teams in 2 separate groups. The GAL were competing for the Plate trophy (2nd tier) and the OLD were in the Bowl (3rd tier) competition. The team was a good combination of OLD (Michael, David Sng & Kevin) and GAL (Marcus, Jeremy Sin, Daniel, Jingzhong, Lincoln, Nigel, Dominic & Yi Jun).
With a little more experience, the players set themselves up well for a good end to the season, using the 3-1-3-1 formation in all but 1 match. Representing OLD in the Bowl competition, the team drew all 3 of their group games 0-0. The closest they came to victory was the game against CMC, when 1-on-1 with the keeper after Yi Jun's good wingplay, Dominic fired wide with the goal at his mercy. With 3 points from 3 games, the team narrowly missed out in making it to the final, where RLC advanced based on count back on goals scored (they had scored 1 goal and conceded another!).
In the Plate competition, the team fared much better. The 1st match was a goal-less draw against a weak SAL2, even though there were numerous opportunities to score, with Marcus hitting the post. Knowing that only a win would do to progress, the team went all out against AMC2. There were a number of opportunities to score again, but Marcus finally got his goal with an excellent lob from the half-way line. It was the goal of the SoccerTron! Having guaranteed progression to the final, the last group game against CBC was a formality. Dominating the whole match, a good move involving Jingzhong on the left allowed Yi Jun to have the ball in the box and beat a defending before firing low past the keeper. The team finished top of the league with 7 points from 3 games.
It was a long wait for the Agape Cup final to be completed before the next game. AMC beat HP 2-1 to win the Agape Cup for the 6th consecutive year. BBTC beat AFC 4-1 to finish 3rd.
In the final of the Plate competition, the team took on CBC again. Tried as they did to score, the team couldn't break the deadlock, despite Yi Jun going narrowly close. On the defensive end, Michael showcased his powers of agility by denying CBC with a wonderful reflex save. As neither team could score, it was left to the dreaded novelty sudden-death shootout to settle the match. The ball was placed on the half way line to shoot into an open goal, with the ball having to take flight. The 1st set of players both fired wide. With our 2nd kick, Marcus placed the ball into goal and when the CBC player missed, we lifted the Plate trophy. It was a tremendous effort from the team, who scored 2 goals and conceded none in 7 matches!
It has been a long Agape Cup season which began in March. A big thank you goes out to all players who represented PMC. In about 6 weeks time, we will hopefully all gather at Sports Planet East Coast for PMC Cup 2010 and our celebration BBQ. See you then!

Agape Cup SoccerTron (19th September) Sign-up
Dear Veterans and Galacticos, the 'postponed' 2nd phase of the Agape Cup SoccerTron takes place this Sunday. This is the 9-a-side round-robin league played as a 'curtain-raiser' for the Agape Cup Finals (AMC .vs. HP) that starts at 4pm on the same day. So why not come for a kickabout and stay to watch the finals. A 12-player squad is required to play for both GAL and OLD teams in the Plate and Bowl leagues respectively. Details are as follows:

Soccer Fellowship Report [18th September]
The weather was intensely hot when Soccer Fellowship started. 9 players had gathered at East Spring Secondary, including Andy Chua, who was making a comeback after a couple of months absence. John led everyone in a time of devotion before play started.
With 5 against 4, the benches were again used as goal posts. This was until Kevin arrived at about 4pm to make it 5-on-5 and the use of cones. Play was confined to the 18-yard box and this required speed, close ball control and quick passing, which everyone had a chance to practice. After about 20min, Daniel had to leave, making it 5-on-4 again and then after Adrian left, it was 4-on-4 for the remaining 15min.
It was a good run-out again, and John closed the session with prayer.

Soccer Fellowship Report [11th September]
The long weekend must have affected the attendance at Soccer Fellowship on Saturday as only 9 people turned up. This was the lowest attendance since the 'infamous' 4-player session in 2007. Nonetheless, the session carried on with Yuen Wai leading the players in a time of devotion. We also welcomed 13-year-old Samuel Longfield from Australia, who joined us for the first time. Hopefully he'll be a regular in our Galacticos side next year!
After 2 players decided not to stay, the remaining 7 invited the Field Warden to join them for a 4-a-side game, using the benches as goal posts. Everyone still had a good time, playing until the end of the session at 5pm.
Let's hope more people turn up at the next Soccer Fellowship!
