Soccer-for-Bibles Tournament [31st May]

The Soccer-for-Bibles Tournament will be held @ Farrer Park Field this Thursday, 31st May 2007. It is a tournament to raise funds for the purchase of Bibles in countries in our region. By taking part and raising funds for this cause, we are showing our commitment to the spread of God's Word to all those who need it and haven't heard it. PMC Soccer Team Training [26th May]

There will be a PMC Soccer Team training session from 4 pm - 6 pm this Saturday, 26th May 2007 @ the Open Field along Tampines Avenue 1, opposite Temasek Polytechnic.

There is a public car park next to Block 899. Access to this car park is from Tampines St. 81, off Tampines Avenue 3.

Please refer to the map below for details. For some reference, Springfield Secondary School is on the left-hand side of the map.

The purpose of this training session is to prepare the Team for the upcoming Soccer-for-Bibles Tournament and Inter-Church league starting in June. We also want to invite new players to train with and try out for the team if you've not played in any of the friendlies this year. Glenn will run this training session and will work on tactical engagement and set-pieces.

Soccer Fellowship Report [19th May]

The session started off with a bit of a worry. As people started arriving @ Springfield, we realised that we didn't have a ball to play with. Jimmy & Jeremy were so concerned that they actually went back to Jimmy's place to get one. Alas, Michael Chua arrived with a ball! John led in devotion before the session and the topic was on friendship and how we should aim to be a friend instead of always looking for friends. Of course, he also reminded us that the best friend anyone can have is Jesus Christ!

The weather had cooled considerably by the time we got on the pitch and we really thanked God for that. The teams looked very balance in quality and also in quantity, with about 2 subs for each side. The Blues dominated the first few minutes, threading passes quite beautifully, and the father-son duo of Sheldon and Ronnie stamping their authority in midfield. It was only when Bangshi came on for the Whites that the play started to even out. However, that was when the Blues had already gone 1-o, thanks to a Ronnie curling shot that found its way past Jeremy, into the top of the net. The Blues goal was hardly threatened in the 1st half, with just a tame effort by Glenn when he broke clear of the Blues defence, led ably by James & David.

The 2nd half got underway quite quickly after the break so that we could have a full half to play before the next game kicked off. The Whites were intent on breaking their duck and piled on the pressure from the start. Daniel and John worked their way down the right wing to deliver a number of crosses. There were also a few corners won and some shots that mildly threatened Kevin, who was playing in goal for the Blues on this occasion. However, neither team seemed to be able to score in the 2nd half. White keeper Jeremy really kept the scoreline respectable with many excellent diving saves. Final score-

Soccer Fellowship [19th May]

Soccer Fellowship is ON this Saturday, 19th May at Springfield Secondary School.

The session will be from 3 - 5 pm.

This week, we are going to team up in a NOVELTY way again but this time those born during ODD months of the year [Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov] will kit out in BLUE jerseys and compete against those born during EVEN months of the year [Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec], who will wear WHITE jerseys. Let's get to know one another better and more peoples' birthdays this Saturday!

Soccer Fellowship Report [5th May]

This is a really belated match report, in part due to the server failure at blogspot. So I shall spare the details.

In summary, the session started off with devotion led by Kevin Ang, who shared about Kaka's testimony and how God works through both ordinary and extraordinary ways to touch the lives of people and to show the world that He is truly God.

The teams were then split according to birthday months, with those born in the 1st half of the year competing against those who were born in the 2nd half of the year. The match was played in a competitive spirit with much effort. There were few clear cut chances and both goals came in the first half. Mitchell scored from the penalty spot after Damien was tripped in the penalty box. Later in the half, Sheldon scored one of his spectacular crackers to level the match.

Kaka's Testimony

By today, many of us would know that in the last 2 weeks, AC Milan Brazilian attacking midfielder Kaka almost single-handedly caused the exit of Manchester United in this year's Champions League. He scored 3 of AC Milan's 5 goals in the 2-leg semi-final. What many of us may not have heard/read is his testimony and why he always points to the sky when he scores a goal and wears a t-shirt under his jersey with the words I Belong to Jesus. This is an exerpt taken from an interview between Kaka and Athletes of Christ (AOC)-

AOC: Tell us about your conversion.

Kaka: I was born to an evangelical home. My parents were already saved and I grew up in the presence of the Lord. My conversion occurred after my baptism, when I began having a relationship of Father to son with God. When I was baptized in 1994, something supernatural happened to me. I can not explain it, but after that experience I got closer to God, more in-tuned with Him. At that moment I was really born spiritually. I began to know God more in depth, and I've learned that faith works within the limits of the circumstances. With God things are solved at the last moment, and it is faith that decides whether something will happen or not.

AOC: How about one dramatic situation?

Kaka: It happened in October of 2000. I was playing at the Juniors Championship. I had gone to visit my grandparents (my father's side) in Caldas Novas, and there I slipped on a swimming pool slide, on a water-toboggan. When I fell into the water I hit my head on the bottom on the pool and twisted my neck, which caused a fracture on a vertebrae. The doctors said that I was lucky to be able to even walk normally. They were talking about luck and my family was talking about God. Back at home we always thanked God because we knew that it was His hand that had saved and protected me.

This is the commentary upon his return to soccer after his career-threatening injury-

"One year later Kaká made his comeback on the pitch, when he came in as a reserve-substitute in the Tornero Rio Final. His team was down by one goal when the coach decided to put on the reserve, Kaká with 14 minutes left. The commentators were upset and said that there was some possibility that the São Paulo coach was crazy, but after two minutes Kaká had scored two goals and taken his team to a victory. He attributes his recovery to God and has since tithed his income to his church."
