Futsal Fellowship [1st Nov]

Due to unavailability of school fields in the final 2 months of the year, the PMC Soccer Community will continue to have regular Futsal Fellowship sessions @ Sports Planet East Coast for us to continue to keep fit and fellowship with one another.

The 1st is planned for this Sunday, 1st Nov, 4-6pm but we will gather at 345pm for a time of devotion before we start.

We will use the blog to facilitate sign-up for all these sessions. Just post a comment with your name to confirm interest.

If there are between 8-10 players for a session, we will go 1hr with 2 teams.
If there are between 12-18 players, we will keep it to 2hrs among 3 teams.

Please sign-up ASAP as booking for the pitch will have to be cancelled by this Friday should there be less than 8 players signing up for the session.

Thanks and God Bless!

The time has come...

The time has come for 8 teams to let their feet do the talking and compete to be crowned PMC Cup 2009 Champions. Who will emerge victorious and hold aloft the challenge trophy on Saturday?

To keep in the spirit of why and how we should play, please watch the following videos.

Do enjoy the tournament both on and off the field, celebrate team work, individual skill and have lots and lots of fun in the process.

Don't resort to late tackles, harsh challenges and violence.

All the best for Saturday!

PMC Cup 2009 Practice Report [17th Oct]

About 14 players gathered at Sports Planet East Coast for the practice session. *The others must be doing secret training elsewhere* Maurice started off the session with a time of devotion. Despite the music blaring from the speakers, I think Maurice was able to share and pray before play started.

As there were insufficient players for 3 teams, 2 teams played against each other, with rolling substitutes. It was the Eastern Barracudas in white and 'all the others' in a mixture of colours. It was good to see Michael Choo returning to soccer after a long absence and we also welcomed some players who were joining us at Sports Planet for the 1st time.

The games began 5-on-5 but after the very hot and humid conditions got to us, play was reduced to 4-on-4 at times, while players rested on the sidelines. There were many goals, some of them from nice flowing moves, while others were individualistic and powerful. All in all, it was good session to test out tactics, get a feel of the court and prepare for Saturday.

Reminder for PMC Cup 2009
Please be punctual on Saturday! We will start the opening session + briefing punctually at 330pm. Any player not present inside the pitch when the opening session starts will not be allowed to participate in the tournament (unless prior request has been made to the organising committee and permission granted).

Agape Cup SoccerTron (11th Oct) Report

We had another good day out in the sun. This time, it was a real joint-venture between PMC and CMC. With fewer players turning up from all 3 teams, we were hard-pressed to represent ourselves and the 4th team under the Soccer Community. Nonetheless, we did our best, and as we got together to kit-up, we also welcomed a couple of new faces to our fold.

Jingzhong, Marcus & Mike kitting-up

Steve (soon-to-be veteran) and Andy (fully qualified veteran)

I had the privilege of sharing before the SoccerTron began and I focused on the topic of 'Time' and what we've been doing with it. Using examples of people who have had their 'normal time' suddenly taken away through illness, accidents etc... I sought to encourage everyone to live life to the fullest, starting with the next day - The 1st day of the rest of our lives.

As for the matches, we had a number of close games and even had to square off against one another at some stage. The Veterans and Pentecost Teams got knocked out through the sudden-death halfway line kick-out (a most bizarre form of tie-breaker). At the end of the day, it was left to CMC to fly the flag of the District East TRAC churches, making it to the final of the Plate competition, with help from John. With Kevin also taking the field for them in the final, it came down again to the sudden-death halfway line kick-out, which we lost again (who practices these anyway?).

I had to leave after the final but was updated by Mark about the prize-giving. In addition to the participation trophies and 1st runner-up finish by CMC for the SoccerTron, CMC also bagged the Agape Cup 2009 Best Organised Team award and I received the Best Manager award. It has been a long (March - October) season, but very rewarding indeed. A big pat on the back for all those who had taken part in this year's Agape Cup and SoccerTron.

Agape Cup SoccerTron (4th Oct) Report + PMC Cup 2009 Update

Agape Cup SoccerTron Day 1 (4th October)
About 25 of us got together to compete under the umbrella of 3 teams – Veterans, Soccer Team and Soccer Community. We had a good time. I must say the word ‘fun’ characterised the few hours we spent under the hot sun. The teams shared lots of laughter, jokes and even players. A number of highlights on the field included Choon Heng’s ‘miracle’ save as goalkeeper and Daniel’s ‘hand-of-God’ goal! One should have been a goal and one shouldn’t, but the referee got it the other way round. All in all it was a good day out finished by watching the Agape Cup semi-final between Aldersgate Methodist and Harvester Football Club, which Aldersgate won by 4 – 3.

Officially, the PMC Team are 2nd in their group. The Veterans are 5th placed and Soccer Community 6th in the other group. All 3 teams will continue to compete on Sunday (11th Oct) with 1 group match remaining and then the knock-out stages of either the Cup (top 4 teams in each group) or Plate (bottom 2 teams in each group + 1st round losers from Cup competition). We hope all those who participated on Sunday will be able to join, along with others who were not available.

PMC Cup 2009 (24th October)
Registrations have been coming in for our annual tournament. Registrations close at the end of today (Monday 5th October) and no ‘late’ registrations will be entertained unless prior arrangements have been made as we need to confirm the number of teams (to plan the fixtures) and number of players (to cater the food for the BBQ). Currently, registrations for the following teams (captain) [jersey colour] have been received:

1. Woody Tree Football Club (Samuel Pang) [Red]
2. Vasantham Star (Daniel Low) [TBC]
3. Random Soccer (Bertrand Tan) [White]
4. Inglorious Basterds (Justin Ang) [Yellow]
5. V-United (John Chia) [Royal Blue]
6. Barracudas (Glenn See Toh) [Orange]
7. Paper Airplane (Brian Lim) [TBC]
8. The Unknown (Maurice Lim) [Navy Blue]

We have also received some individual registrations and these players will be slotted into teams that have space or if sufficient, form a team on their own.

Have a good week ahead and do let us know if you can make it for the 2nd part of the Agape Cup SoccerTron on 11th October!
