Soccer Fellowship Report [1st March]

The soccer fellowship kicked off on a new ground at East Spring Secondary School as Springfield Secondary is undergoing construction of artificial turf.

At 3pm, the turnout wasn't good as many was still finding their way around.

The devotion was then led by Maurice touching on "Encouragement". Giving an example as when he was running a 2.4km run and the sight of his mates gave him an extra boost in his run. So, on the pitch, instead of blaming your teammates on certain mistakes, instead give a tap on the shoulder and give some encourage to obtain a better effort from him. =)

The weather was nice and windy. The match then kicked off at around 3.30pm. Since we started off late and we played the whole match continuously. No half-time, giving a good fitness maintenance for most of us.

The first goal came when an attack from the blues was cancelled out by the white's defence, resulting in a corner. A brilliant in-swinging corner from ex-national Ronnie Liew resulted in Kee Min producing a powerful header to the top-right corner of the goalmouth leaving the keeper with no chance at all.

The blue's midfield was compact and constantly doing triangle passing. The attack goes on. Soon after, a through ball on the left gave Choon Heng a 1-on-1 situation with the keeper. Too much on the ball, gave time for Michael and Maurice to paddle back. Being sneaky on the dribbles, he dribbled past Joel(gk), Maurice and slotted a goal through the legs of Michael.

Continuing in the through ball attack from the blues, gave Uncle John an opening on the right flank, a moment of brilliance from Uncle John's cross lobbed over the keeper giving Jonathan Jong a simple tap-in for a goal. Jonathan is Michael's colleague and it's his first time joining in for PMC's fellowship.

After conceding the third goal, the Whites pulled up their socks and played some better football, showing more passing and a little one-two on the flanks. Time and again, the whites pushed forward but had hardly much luck and some poor finishing.

Soon after, a little one-two on the right flank between Derrick and Rusydi resulted in Derrick driving a powerful shot from a tight angle on the right. Derrick is Kevin's neighbour and also joining PMC Soccer fellowship for the first time.

The goal liftted up the spirit of the Whites and make them more hungry for an equaliser.

The second goal came when David Teong tried to break Kevin's legs in the penalty box. Rusydi then cleanly slotted the penalty to the bottom right corner of the goal.

After a while, a referee for the next match stepped onto the pitch and blows for a final whistle signalling the end of our fellowship.

Entrance to East Spring Secondary Field

After yesterday's Fellowship session at East Spring Secondary, we can now confirm that the entrance to the field is next to Block 362. If you are driving, the multi-storey car park you should park at is at Block 359A. Please take note of this for the upcoming sessions at East Spring Secondary. If unsure, please check the street directory map.

Extra training session this month...

We just found out that we have made an additional booking made at East Spring Secondary School this month. This means that we have the field for the 1st 4 Saturdays of the month. After some discussion, we have decided to have a Soccer Team training session this Saturday, 8th March, 3 - 5 pm.

All Soccer Community players are welcomed to join and improve their skills, even if they are not interested in competitive soccer.

Veterans, please come in your RED kit and Youth, in your NAVY kit.

Soccer Fellowship [1st March]

Soccer Fellowship is ON this Saturday, 1st March at East Spring Secondary School. The session will be from 3 - 5 pm.

For team identification this week, please bring / wear a BLUE AND WHITE jersey. As mentioned, we will standardise these 2 colours for Soccer Fellowship every session.

For the car park situation, please follow the instructions from the previous post. Do get their early to familiarise yourself with the place and come early for devotion led by Maurice.

A new home ground- East Spring Secondary School

In March, the PMC Community Soccer Community will need to have its Fellowship sessions to a new home- East Spring Secondary School. This is because the field is due for conversion to a synthetic grass field and this process will take up to 9 months before the field is available again.

The address of East Spring Secondary School is 30 Tampines Street 34, (S) 529231. The landmarks are:

1. Across Tampines Junior College along Tampines Avenue 7.
2. Entry to Tampines Street 34 is marked by an Esso Petrol Station.
3. School is directly opposite The Eden condominium.

Follow this link to the map on Streetdirectory.com to find your way there. I'm not sure exactly where the entrance of the field is, so do arrive early to familiarise your way with the place. There are 4 multi-storey car parks in the area, at blocks 359A, 364A, 366A and 374A.

Friendly Match Report .vs. Kampong Kapor Methodist Church (23 February)

Soccer Friendly Report by Adrian Phuah:

PMC saw one of the better turn-outs whereby 22 players were available for the coach's selection. KKMC even negotiated two loan deals that saw Kevin Ang and Maurice Lim swapping their blue jerseys for the opposing white jerseys. PMC fielded the U-23s for the first half with Mark Leong (Obviously just slightly above 23) playing as the last man in defence.

The players were all raring to go, except that the referee was nowhere to be seen! He soon appeared. Thank goodness! PMC started with a 4-3-3 formation and both teams started cautiously with very little separating their play. Our midfield trio of Lee Kee Min, Ong Bang Shi and Peh Choon Heng tried to make in-roads but was met with a resilient defence line. The opposing team retaliated as they tried to bypass the entire midfield by lobbing high balls. They were convincingly snuffed out by our backline of Joel Tan, Mark Leong, Jeremy Sin and Daniel Low. Our goalie Jeremy Tan also had little to do.

Ryusdi and Bangshi combined to stop KKMC's foreign striker

Our strike force of Ryusdi, Jing Zhong and Damien were having no joy up front as they were ably tamed by the opposing defence. Our opponents then had two opportunities to put themselves ahead but they were off target. The game was so equally matched that the attention was drawn regularly to the $50 referee who continued to stay just within the centre circle, now dubbed the "The referee's circle". The first half drew to an end with neither side having the advantage.

Player/ Manager Ronnie Liew then made wholesale changes where 10 pairs of fresh legs were brought in. The chop and change did not help as we were left trailing by two goals through defence lapses (One of the goals scored by our very own Kevin Ang). After that, our defence - Michael Chua, Mark Leong, Raymond Chang and Andy Chua ensured that our opposition were well shackled.

PMC's midfield Adrian Phuah, Ronnie Liew and John Chia tried to press the game but the KKMC players stood firm. Timothy Loke also provided good support for the front two of Glenn See Toh and Samuel Eyo as we prodded on to search for the elusive goal.

Then with a little shimmy, John came loose for his marker and he unleashed a lovely ball that struck the upright. The rebound was picked up by Glenn and he coolly lifted the ball beyond the reach of the opposing goalkeeper. PMC 1-2 KKMC.

At the end of the game, PMC players knew that we should have done better but for our lack of match practice and communication. Still, we had fun and are looking forward to cosying ourselves to our new home ground at East Spring Secondary School.

Soccer Fellowship Report [16th February]

Soccer Fellowship report from 16th February by Glenn See Toh:

The session moved off with devotion being led by Ong Bang Shi on being an ‘Encourager’ to persons feeling/being low on their spiritual life. This was followed with the soccer fellowship kicking off in the hot afternoon sun where the attendance of 25 players made sure that we had an 11-aside match going. Both the teams were divided equally in terms of youth and veteran with no goals forthcoming for almost 3/4 of the match’s first-half. The first and only goal of this half did finally come for the Whites in the form of a shot from Jeremy Tan just outside the penalty box which struck the near post, rebounded off the Blue’s Keeper Raymond Chang, before just crossing the goal-line. The match was played in this manner with very solid defending from both the two teams forming up from the midfield area all the way to the defense.

The second-half started almost in the same manner, till a mis-kick from second-half keeper Jimmy Phuah from a goal-kick presented Glenn See Toh with an empty net to immediately slot into. Score 2-0 in favour of the Whites. Two more goals were scored by the Whites in quick 10-minutes succession by Justin Ang from crosses at the flanks. The score of 4-0 was sadly not reflecting for the Blue’s, who’s effort at the opposite end is marked with a galore of chances wasted. But that did finally change when a well taken shot from Byran was scored from a rebound. Score now 1-4. But as if in respond to that goal conceded, the Whites scored two rapid goals through a header from Glenn See Toh & a piece of good individual skill from Jing Zhong, Choo who dribbled through three defenders, before slotting it into the net. These goals scored, now taking the Whites score to 6-1 against the Blue’s. As the match dragged to the finishing whistle, the Blue’s came alive once more to inflict a last goal by Daniel Low against their opponent. Final score 6-2! The match was played in the right spirit with good weather and fine team-mates.

For the car park situation, please check at the school on the day itself. If the guard lets you in, parking is allowed, otherwise, park at the HDB car park near the public entrance.

PMC Soccer Fellowship 2nd Feb 2008

Soccer fellowship carried on despite the incessant rain on Saturday. Sheldon led those present in short time of devotion regarding us being the salt and light of the earth. There were 14 people who turned up in all. We proceeded to play a quick 7-a-side with the blues taking on the whites. The match was played in an atmosphere of fun, with players abandoning their accustomed positions. We also warmly welcomed David Teong back to the fold after overcoming his first month as a new father! The game ended without us counting scores, but it was great kickabout nevertheless!
