Soccer Fellowship [12th February]

Soccer Fellowship is on this Saturday, 12th February at Pasir Ris Secondary School* (the one in Tampines!). The session will be from 3 - 5 pm.

Please bring BOTH a BRIGHT and DARK jersey so that we can split the teams evenly.

Soccer Fellowship Report [29th January]

It was a nice cooling afternoon for a game of soccer. Teams were separated into teams of blues and white. We started off with a mini game of 8 aside game using half a field with cones.

The whites string together in attack with the likes of Kee Min, Jingzhong and Daniel. After the whites were leading by 3-0, a few more turned up making it a 9-aside game.

Soon, another 2 arrived and teams were separated to plan player’s position. Both sides were closely matched areas of defence, attack and midfield distribution. Score was 1-1 and soon it rained pretty heavily. Many bad passes were made since. It was much a reminder for everyone that wet weather, adjustment and more precise passing is required.

The heavy rain did not deter the passionate players...

Since the pitch is wet, many went for the effort of trying from range since the ball slips faster making goalkeepers mistime their save. However, majority of the efforts went wide. *Only converted chances results in goal*

After 15minutes, the score went to 2-2. The rain stopped and the sky is clear. The pitch is still wet, boots soaked with water. Play slowed down, but nonetheless, it’s still closely fought between both sides. Many chances were created, but only a couple manage to nail the final ball.

The game ended with the score of 3-3. It was a fairly matched game as the score were never more than 2 goals in difference. Many were tired after the game, which shows the lack of fitness and the need to be ready when Agape Cup starts in March. Teamwork can only be focused on weekly fellowship. Fitness wise, it’s still mostly a personal effort on everyone’s part.

Soccer Fellowship Report [22nd January]

A warm afternoon greeted our 3rd soccer session of this new year, with afew 'long time no see' players turning up for some kickabouts in Adrian (back for some light football from long term injury), Kris (after his awesome marriage and hectic work scheldue last year) as well as welcoming Clement (who join us sometime last year).

About 16 players turn up and Ronnie begin our fellowship by sharing a devotion about Jesus's love and friendship. Thereafter, we broke up into Blues against Bright (8-aside), and scoring only in the 6-yard box with no goalkeeper. 1st half saw a couple of goals from both side, with team Bright leading as their young fast players often easily beat many of the Blue veteran players by pace. 8 players running a full length field really took alot out of everyone, so it was really a good runout and a test of fitness for many of us, especially those who are vying for a starting place in the Agape Cup team.

At the break, we were joined by a couple more players, so we played 10-a-side, with goalkeepers. Goals came as well in the 2nd half, once again with team Bright winning. The Blues play was to compact the midfield and play a very high line, closing down the Bright faster, while team Bright use the advantage of their pacy wingers to constantly break down the wings. Overall players from both side had a good runout in terms of getting back to their match fitness and especially, getting back the confidence and playing to their position. Everyone is clearly shacked out after the session, which is good in terms of fitness training, but yet is still not good enough at Agape level.

Some outstanding performances were team Brights JZ definitely played well to his potential down the wings, and the confidence in taking on players will definitely come good, along with the final ball; Marcus for his delivery from goal kick, Blue's DM keemin for his workrate at closing down players. With Agape in about 1 month's time, its really time for everyone to up their play and fitness level, and of course by playing more regularly as highlighted by Adrian.

Friendly Match Report [15th January]

Showers earlier in the day and just at the start of kick-off had threatened the match, but it was soon clear and cool. Most of the PMC players arrived early and managed to get in some warm-up. The CMC team looked short on numbers but eventually, they managed to have 10 to start, borrowing PMC's Michael as their GK.

Before the match, Yuen Wai shared devotion, about life's journey and the need to have God in it.

With 21 players, the PMC focused more on participation and giving everyone a good run-out. The starting line-up consisted of:

The substitutes were Michael, Daniel, Yuen Wai, Wei En, Jacob, Kevin Liam, Kevin Ang, Jingzhong, John and Rusydi.

The match kicked off with both teams trying to assert control and keep the ball. The CMC players looked to use the flanks and their speed to cause havoc, but to no avail. PMC was clearly relying on Dominic to win the ball in midfield and drive it forward, looking for Yi Jun and Ramon for goals. A CMC goalmouth scramble resulted in Lincoln clashing with Michael, who looked slightly shaken. In the next move, Yi Jun exploited that by cutting in from the left and firing a stiff low shot, which Michael could not hold. 1-0 to PMC. Mid-way of the 1st half saw quite a number of substitutions made. The fresher legs sought to extend PMC's lead but it was CMC that equalised. A long ball was insufficiently cleared and a speculative 1st time lob caught Sean off his line, leading to the equalizer. However, it wasn't long before PMC took the lead again. Some slick passing in the final third allowed Rusydi to find space in the box and his first time shot from a pass found its way to the bottom left corner of the CMC goal. PMC was clearly dominating the match in midfield and repelling CMC's advances effectively. Soon, it was 3-1. Rusydi's corner found Ramon un-marked and he nodded the ball in for the lead. Unfortunately, some of the good work was undone when at the stroke of half-time, another speculative long ball by CMC was not handled by Mark and Sean, allowing the CMC forward to chip the ball into an empty net. It was still 3-2 to PMC at half-time.

The 2nd half saw most of the 1st half starters take the field, with a few exceptions. The CMC team had been bolstered with a number of players that arrived late and they looked determine to get back into the match. Indeed, that was the case as within the first 5 min of the half, they equalized and led, using their speed and drive down the flanks to cause havoc in the PMC penalty box. It was only some excellent defensive work by Jeremy and a world-class save by Michael (now in PMC's goal) that prevented the game from running away. Knowing that the PMC ship needed to be steadied, Kevin Ang subbed out for Dominic and this immediately had the desired effect. A few more minutes later, Rusydi, Daniel, Jingzhong, Kevin Liam, Jacob and Ming Kiat entered the fray to get PMC back into the match. This indeed happened after many opportunities and from a direct free-kick, Rusydi scored his 2nd of the game, sending the ball into the top-left hand corner with the CMC GK well beaten. With the score at 4-4, it was all to play for unfortunately, it was another defensive error that led to CMC's winner. An insufficient clearance by Jeremy (his only lapse all match) allowed the ball to fall nicely to the CMC forward, whose shot was well saved by Michael. However, the rebound was met by an onrushing CMC player who had the easiest of tasks to tap into an empty net.

It was a good 1st competitive outing for everyone, with participation the goal. Agape Cup preparations will continue with more friendlies or training sessions in January and February.

Soccer Team Friendly .vs. CMC [15th January]

Soccer Fellowship Report [8th January]

It was an exceptionally fine day for the start of the PMC Soccer Community season. The weather was cool and the field at Pasir Ris Secondary looked very well rested indeed. At the beginning of the session, 18 players had turned up, itching to get a good run-out. Many had not played during the break and looked very fresh!

Kevin started the session off with a time of devotion, sharing from the account of Jesus calming the storm. He explained that whatever storms in life come our way, we can always rely on Jesus to see us through them, because He is an all-powerful God.

By the time devotion ended, a few more players turned up and there were at least 10-a-side for a full field game. It was the Reds/Whites (RWs) vs the Blues. Surprisingly, passing was very sharp and ball-control was good. All players were just getting a feel of the ball and it was the RWs who struck first. Before long though, the Blues equalized. Action was fast-paced and Dominic and Kee Min on opposing teams were pulling the strings in midfield for their sides. Half-time arrived with the RWs in the lead 2-1.

The 2nd half saw the Blues reorganize themselves with Ronnie playing up front instead of last man. This paid dividends as we scored one and set up a couple for Kee Min to put the Blues in front. The RWs had to rely on Marcus' hat-trick to pull away 5-4 before the Blues pulled one more back to even the score at 5-5. The high-scoring game was certainly enjoyable and started the season off on a very positive note. Maurice closed the session in prayer.

Blessed Christmas Everyone!

Dear members of the PMC Soccer Community

We would like to wish one and all a very Blessed Christmas. We hope that it has been a time of renewal, reflection and recovery during this off-season, as we spend time with family and friends.
