Till next year...
The 2007 PMC Soccer Community season has officially come to an end. We have seen an incredible season of fellowship, friendlies, tournaments and of course, the PMC Cup. More importantly, new friends have joined us and relationships have been strengthened. As a Community, we are moving towards the fulfillment of the Community goals in each of our lives.
We thank God for His faithfulness in blessing us with excellent weather throughout the year, the availability of pitches and referees, keeping us free from serious injury and all the good matches we had.
The leadership would also like to thank all players for making the season so memorable and look forward to seeing everyone in 2008.
Please look out for some exciting events that PMC will be organising during this festive season and do participate if you can. The calendar of events will reflect these activities!

Friendly Match Report .vs. ECG (1st December)
The 2007 PMC Soccer Community season officially came to an end when the Veterans Team took on ECG in a friendly on 1st December. Most of the Jalan Tembusu pitch was still soft and sticky, but it was definitely more playable than the pitch the previous week. God provided excellent weather again with a cool breeze blowing throughout the match. Not all the Veterans that signed up for the match showed up, so it was good that a few Youth players turned up and Mark brought his friend Davin to add some strength to the squad. Even then, the team knew that a tough match was underway, with only 13 players in total.
PMC started the match well and held excellent shape against the opponents. Some neat work down the flanks from Choon Heng and John resulted in some half chances which did not convert into any goals. Ronnie and Bangshi were also holding the centre of midfield well and with Mark sweeping up as last man, things looked positive for the rest of the match. PMC's first goal came on the run of play with some midfield hustle landing the ball in the path of Choon Heng who took a good swipe at it on goal. A slight deflection off an ECG defender made it loft higher and swifter and right into the top corner of the ECG net. PMC was 1-0 up. Being a goal down fired up ECG and they took to the wings to find an equaliser. Cross after cross was fired into the PMC box. Off a corner, ECG's #10 climbed highest to head the ball towards goal, only to have Michael Chua deny him. However, it wasn't long before ECG's equaliser arrived. A flighted ball was initially caught by Michael but with mounting pressure, the ball dropped into the path of ECG's #10, who slotted it into the net. Possession was more even as the match warmed up and it took the goal of the match to break the deadlock. Picking up the ball on the edge of the box, Bangshi rifled in a screamer into the top left hand corner of the net to put PMC 2-1 up. Being a goal down did not hamper ECG but fired them to get another equaliser. A stiff low cross was fired into PMC's box from the left wing and although Michael did his best to parry it away from goal, it fell nicely again into the path of ECG's #10, who prodded it into the net. On level terms again, the 2 teams played to a draw at the end of the 1st half.
The 2nd half began very brightly for PMC. An apparent harmless ball into the ECG box led to a mix up between the ECG keeper and his last man, leaving Glenn to slip the ball into the goal from a tight angle. Not to take the set back lying down, ECG once again pressed for a 3rd equaliser. Much of the battle was in midfield, with both teams trying to exert authority- PMC to put the match away and ECG trying to get back into it. With PMC being stretched at the back, ECG took the initiative and played a good ball down the left wing which gave the ECG winger the opportunity to beat PMC's 2nd half keeper Kris, and slot home the equaliser. With the game poised on a knife's edge, some tough tackles were put in to boss the game. The referee tried to maintain control and dished out the only yellow card of the game to an overzealous ECG player who went too far with his challenges. Finally, cooler heads prevailed to get on with the game. On a successful attempt in beating PMC's offside trap, ECG's left winger managed to play a neat square pass to ECG's #10 who completed his hat-trick and cemented ECG's comeback. Despite playing well, the defeat shows the constant need for PMC to work on certain aspects of the game and improve. Most importantly, everyone had a good game. We thank God for His faithfulness this year and look forward to more good matches in 2008. Well done team!

Friendly Match Report .vs. Wesley Youth (24th November]
On 24th November, the Pentecost Youth team took to the field at Jalan Tembusu to contest its first full friendly against the Youth of Wesley Methodist. God provided excellent weather, and even though the field was quite softy and sticky, it was still playable in most areas. Some veterans came to support and lend their legs when required to do so.
Pentecost Youth started the match very brightly and began to probe the Wesley defence from the kick-off. The play was direct and attempts were made to play the ball to the forwards (Jingzhong and Joel) down the middle of the field. The defence marshalled by Sheldon and Isaac was also able to cope with any danger from the Wesley forwards. It was long before Pentecost scored. a ball from Damien found Jingzhong in space and he made no mistake by placing the ball beyond the Wesley keeper. With Kee Min and Samuel Pang keeping things tight in midfield and full-backs Daniel and Ryan working hard, Wesley didn't have many chances to assert their authority on the match. It was only when a long ball found its way through the defence that Wesley had a great chance to score, but the superb reflexes of Jeremy denied the Wesley forwards twice. By the time the 1st half ended, PMC was up 4-0, with all 4 goals coming from Jingzhong, a couple assisted by Rusydi and the rest of the midfield.
During the half-time break, Coach William took the opportunity to comment on the performance of all the players. He particularly focused on the need to pass more and control the match, especially being 4-0 up. He also gave some advice on technique and how to control and move the ball on the soft and sticky pitch.
The 2nd half started as positively as the first. Pentecost Youth controlled the match well and pressed for more goals. Jingzhong got his 5th when a scramble in the box found the ball fall right in front of him and he made no mistake from 2 yards. With the match quite wrapped-up, Coach William sent on some Veterans for a run-out. Kevin found 2 good chances come his way from outside the box, but ballooned one and sliced another above the crossbar. John was able to contribute directly to the 6th goal by taking the ball down the left wing and playing Damien into space, who drew the keeper out before chipping the ball into an empty net. Being 6 goals down, Wesley had nothing left to lose and fought hard to pull a goal back. A chip down the right wing played the winger into space and his cross into the middle was fortuitously missed by Jeremy, Issac and James, who all went for the same ball but missed it. The ball fell right into the path of a Wesley forward who pushed into an empty net to make it 6-1.
The post-match briefing by Coach William focused a job well done and also key areas to improve. It was definitely a positive 1st outing for the Youth. Well done!

Futsal Fellowship Report [17th November]
The 2nd Futsal Fellowship of the year took place @ Sports Planet East Coast with much excitement. We had new players joining in and some who returned for more action. 3 teams (Ages United, The Brazilian Job and Happy Faces) gathered at about 4pm. Before the 1st match, Kevin shared from Proverbs 3 : 5 & 6 which says:
"5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
The encouragement was to consider what God's will is for us, especially at the end of the year when we are making important decisions for our lives in 2008. It is important to consider God in all that we do.
The 3 teams competed in a 'winners stay' format. There were plenty of goals and probably only 2 draws in about the 12 or more games played. Each team also won at least 1 match. After about 2 hours, it was probably Happy Faces that emerged with the most number of wins. Congratulations to them! Here are some photos from the session.

Futsal Fellowship has certainly been an enjoyable part of the Soccer Community activities this year and when opportunities allow, we will definitely head back to Sports Planet East Coast for some Futsal action.
Soccer Fellowship now takes a break and will return in 2008. The Soccer Team will finish its activities with 2 friendly matches coming up. Details will be posted and do come down to support the team when you can.

Futsal Fellowship [17th November]
The 2nd PMC Futsal Fellowship will take place on 17th November Saturday, from 4 - 6 pm @ Sports Planet East Coast [formerly called Uber Sports Arena] along East Coast Parkway. We will be playing on the exact same pitch [Pitch #4] as last time.
Sports Planet East Coast is located at the old Waterfront Tennis Centre, where Burger King and Long Beach Seafood are. Click here for the map. Parking in the facility is chargeable, but if you park at Car Park C3, it is free.
Here are the instructions for the Futsal Fellowship-
1. Sign up as an individual or as a team (no limit on number of players).
2. Each TEAM is expected to contribute $40 towards pitch rental.
3. Registration will close when 4 teams have signed-up.
4. Each game will be 5-a-side (1 GK, 4 outfield players).
5. Each game will last 10 min in one-continuous period of play.
6. There will be unlimited substitutions allowed.
7. A robin-league will be used so that each team plays 6 matches.
Do start signing up before all the team slots are filled!

The 4 teams competed in a full-league format with each team playing all the other teams twice, in a single period of 10min each time. After about 2 hours of competition, the teams finished in this order:

Futsal Fellowship Reminder!
A BIG hello to everyone who have signed up for Futsal Fellowship this Saturday. This is a reminder to try and start arriving at Uber Sports Arena from 330pm. This is especially so if you drive and need to look for a car park lot.
We will be starting devotion at 345pm so that kick-off can take place punctually at 4pm.

Futsal Fellowship Update!
We're all looking forward to Futsal Fellowship on 3rd November! So far, 4 teams have already registered, so this means that Futsal Fellowship is CONFIRMED for this Saturday!
It looks like most of the teams from the PMC Cup are getting together to press their claims for being a top Futsal team as well. They are-

Futsal Fellowship [3rd November]
With the Springfield pitch being closed for refurbishment until the end of December, Soccer Fellowship will continue in November 'Futsal' style. The 1st PMC Futsal Fellowship will take place on 3rd November Saturday, from 4 - 6 pm @ the Uber Sports Arena along East Coast Parkway. It is located at the old Waterfront Tennis Centre, where Burger King and Long Beach Seafood are. Click here for the map.
