MWS Tournament Report [22nd May]

The team representing PMC in this year's MWS Tournament performed credibly to finish runners-up in the Plate competition. After finishing 5th in their group of 8 teams (missing out on 4th spot by just 1 point), the team was determined to improve their performance and end up as Plate champions. They almost did, but fell at the last hurdle to Queenstown Chinese Methodist Church by the score of 1-0. Nonetheless, it was a great time of fun, fellowship and also contributing to those indeed as the team collected $300 towards the cause of MWS. Well done guys and thanks to Samuel Eyo for managing the team!

Registration for MWS Tournament 2010 [22nd May]

The MWS Tournament is here again! In addition to raising funds for the less fortunate, we get to enjoy a full day of soccer with our friends. How wonderful! We have been a regular participant and have sent up to 2 teams in some years. Whether we get knocked out in the group stage, or making it all the way to finish 3rd (Pandas in 2009), the aim of participation remains the same.

The tournament will again be played at the AR-JAS Sports Centre (West Coast Road). This year, it will be on 22 May 2010, from 9am. It is a one-day tournament, where participation and having fun is the focus. It is similar to the Agape Cup Soccertron that some of you participated in last year.

Soccer Fellowship Report [16th May]

It was 'super fine' weather when players started trickling in on a Sunday afternoon. No one was sure how many players would turn up as it was the 1st time Soccer Fellowship was held on a Sunday, after some requests from our 'Sunday-only' players. It was thus rather encouraging that abut 24 players turned up, including some new faces in Kenzie, Gabriel and Chris. Kenzie and Gabriel are promising juniors (15 years of age) and showed during the match that they have lots of potential to develop.

Samuel Eyo started off the session with devotion. He shared a devotion about 'The Boat' and encouraged everyone to place a premium on teamwork, even over individual effort, as soccer was a team game which required the efforts on everyone in order to succeed.

Following devotion, the players were split according the to those who would be participating in the MWS Tourney (MWS) and the rest (Others). It appeared that both teams were evenly matched and it remained goal-less for quite a while to prove that this was the case. The match ebbed and flowed with both sides trying to make their possession count and it was only when Choon Heng swung a very tricky cross-shot from the right that the tie was broken. The flight of the ball completely fooled Marcus in the MWS goal as the ball ended up in the top corner of the net. It was 1-0 to the Others, but the MWS were galvanized into quick action. Attack after attack followed with Kee Min, Steve, Tim and David Horne having many touches of the ball. Unfortunately, all crosses into the box couldn't find a striker and on the occasion when it did, there was no one to finish strongly. The Others' GK Gabriel was also putting in a fine effort to keep a clean sheet. The half-time break was short as everyone wanted to get more playing time.

As the 2nd half started, it could be seen that the MWS was clearly intent on getting back into the match. Their defence was more steely and their attacking play flowed well but again, good chances were few and far-between. Suddenly, the weather changed completely and a huge downpour drenched the players. The field became waterlogged and the shape of both teams became unrecognizable. Passes on the ground were held up and players resorted to long punts and toe pokes to get the ball forward. Play was almost impossible until the rain stopped and the field soaked in some of the water. The MWS capitalized on this and finally found their equalizer when Steve finished strongly from the 6-yard-box after a good cross from the right. Play continued with both teams trying to win the match but it ended 1-1. Everyone was drenched and muddy, but had a good time.

Soccer Fellowship [16th May]

Soccer Fellowship is on this SUNDAY, 16th May at Pasir Ris Secondary School*. The session will be from 3 - 5 pm. We are having fellowship on a Sunday as some of our 'Sunday only' soccer players have requested for this so that they can attend Soccer Fellowship instead of always missing out if the session was only on Saturdays. Hopefully we'll still get a good turnout.

We will split the teams according to DARK and BRIGHT jerseys for this session , so please bring BOTH just in case we need to balance the teams out.

Soccer Fellowship Report [1st May]

Being a long weekend, it was no surprise that attendance dipped for this session. Nonetheless, 18 players turned up for a time of fellowship under the hot hot sun. We welcomed back Patrick, after his 'paternity leave' and Eddie, one of the Caleb Cuppers from 2009. The session started with David Sng sharing devotion, encouraging us to be excellent in what we do and to know Christ in the process.

Following the devotion, the 18 players were split into Reds versus Others, playing 9-a-side without a keeper and scoring only to take place within the 6-yard box. Play was extremely open with the fewer number of players on the field. There was lots of time on possession and it was the Reds who starting the scoring with quick breaks into the box. It was impossible to keep score beyond 5-0 with Jingzhong, Yi Jun and Damian getting on the score sheet for the Reds numerous times. Ronnie and John got 2 back for the Others before HT.

The 2nd half saw much the same type of action, except that it was the Others who had good possession. However, with fatigue setting in, it was the Reds again that led the scoring in the half before play ended with many choosing to call it a day due to the exhausting heat.

Patrick closed us in prayer, thanking God for the session and keeping us injury-free.
