A Night with Robbie Fowler [29th May]

A group of PMC Soccer Community Liverpool supporters (Glenn, Jeremy Sin, Joel and myself) were privileged to be invited by Yuen Wai to a fans' session with Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler at the British Club. Fowler and his new A-league Team, the North Queensland Fury, were in town for a pre-season friendly against Tampines Rovers.

We gathered at about 730pm at the club and started out with dinner, catching up and finding out from one another why we became Liverpool fans in the first place.

As dinner continued, silence greeted the North Queensland Fury players as they entered the room. It was only when Robbie Fowler strolled in that a loud roar arose from the fans. To those who saw him for the first time, it was a real treat. Immediately, he proceeded to sign off the paraphernalia presented to him on the Pool table, as the fans looked on.

After signing all the Liverpool stuff, Fowler and his new manager Ian Ferguson took centre stage for a brief Question and Answer (Q&A) session with the British Club's GM. Some hilarious fan questions included 'have you ever met Steven Gerrard' by a young boy. This was greeted by a laugh from the crowd. Clearly he was too young to remember that Fowler and Gerrard were team mates for a good number of years. I managed to ask Fowler who was the best strike partner he ever played with, to which he replied 'Stan Collymore because the 2 seasons we played together I scored more than 30 goals each'.

After the Q&A session, it was 'no-holds-barred' as fans rushed to Robbie Fowler's side to have their photos taken with him. I must say he was extremely patient as he took photos with almost every single fan before leaving the club.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening - dinner, fellowship and the chance to meet one of Liverpool's living legends. A big THANK YOU to Yuen Wai and his family for inviting and hosting us at the British Club.
