Soccer Fellowship Report [9th October]

It was another bright and sunny (some said too sunny!) day that greeted players as they turned up at East Spring Secondary School for Soccer Fellowship. It had been a while since we used this field, but the condition was still reasonable, although certain patches were dry and botak!

Maurice started off with a time of devotion before the 17 players were split into teams of Darks (Blue/Black) and Lights (White/Red/Organge). Due to the numbers, we again played full-field without GKs, which facilitated good possession and ball control.

From kickoff, it looked like it was the Darks who were going to runaway with the match. They kept the ball well, passed it round and created many early chances through the work of Ronnie, Daniel Low and Kee Min. The Lights on the other hand, found it difficult to move the ball out of their own half, giving it away after 1 or 2 passes. It was thus no surprise that the Darks were 3-0 up in no time, with goals from Daniel Low, Jingzhong and John. It was only then that the Lights were kicked into action and tried to keep the ball better. Most of the attacks from the Lights came down the wings, with Yi Jun grabbing a brace and then Bryan. The rest of the 1st half was quite even, with scores at 4-4 and then 5-5. With half-time approaching, the last goal scored sent us into the break, and this was by Marcus who ran almost the full length of the field to meet John's long pass to tap into an empty net.

After a quick break and with some players calling it a day, we used the 7-a-side goalposts for the rest of the afternoon. Again, it was the Darks that were calling the shots (quite literally) with good ball/player movement. Again, they were up 3-0 in no time with Ronnie, Daniel and Marcus on the scoresheet. The last goal of the game however, was scored by the Lights, with Joel finding the net from a long way out after a quick counter attack.

Kevin closed the session in prayer, thanking God for the wonderful weather and injury-free Soccer Fellowship. Next up - Futsal Fellowship.
