When rain fell at about 1030am on Saturday morning, everyone anticipated that Sports Council would cancel our booking. But to everyone's amazement and surprise, they did not do so this week. At 3pm, about 18 players gathered to play at Greenview Secondary for the 1st and probably last time (as we are taking Sports Council's advice to book other fields).
After a welcome to our 2 new friends Imran (Jacob's friend) and Leonard (Yi Jun's friend), Kevin started with devotion, focusing on 2 Timothy 3:16. Using the analogy of a GPS device guiding our car journeys, Kevin shared about how the Bible should also guide us in life's journeys.
The 18 players split into Whites .vs. Colours and started to play using just half the field as the Greenview field was quite huge. The Colours had much more possession and sharpness in play. Yi Jun seemed to have returned to goal scoring form, grabbing a brace in quick succession. However, after a few minutes, Choon Heng asked if it would be more fun playing the full field, to which we proceeded to do so for one half. It was definitely more tiring having to cover the full length of the field and both teams tried to keep the ball as much as they could. There were a number of forays down the wing by Joel and Leonard (Colours), but there was no score. On the part of the Whites, Daniel, Imran, Marcus and Kee Min were orchestrating the moves, but 2 very good chances were squandered by Michael, with an amazing miss of the open goal. It was left to Yi Jun again to conjure a goal, this time, by assisting Leonard with a through pass. Not to be daunted, the Whites fought back to level it at 1-1. At this stage, we welcomed Uncle John back after a lengthy absence due to his fracture. With everyone tiring, and waiting for halftime, Yi Jun again grabbed another goal to send everyone for water.
Play returned to half the field for the 2nd half. This time, possession was good by both teams, accompanied by good off the ball movement. In the early stages, the Colours dominated play with Yi Jun, Joel, Jeremy grabbing a number of goals each, before Imran and Daniel pulled a couple back. Samuel and Kevin (Colours) also got on the scoresheet, and no one was counting the number of goals at that stage. At about 5pm, everyone called it quits after running under the hot sun for nearly 2 hours. It was another good workout at Soccer Fellowship!
