Soccer Fellowship Report (5th November)

A very cool afternoon marked the final Soccer Fellowship session of the year. It was good to see a whole range of players turning up, from those who had been with us since 2006 and a newcomer to Soccer Fellowship, Fred (Maurice's friend). We also welcomed back Michael Choo, who had not joined us for the last 3 years, as well as Wei En, joining us for the 1st time since enlistment. The 16 players who turned up really had a good run-out, and reminded us what Soccer Fellowship is all about. Before play got under way, Kevin shared some thoughts on reflecting on our lives (timely at the end of every year) and to see how we can do better next year, with God's help.

It was the Whites (made up of mostly of the younger players) against the Other Colours (made up of mostly veteran players). As the compositions of the teams suggested, the Others had to do lots of chasing early on in the match as the Whites moved the ball around swiftly, from wing to wing, and using the space well. It was thus no surprise that before the Others could control play, the Whites were already 4-0 up, with goals from Kris, Jacob and Lincoln. When the Others got their act together, they kept the ball much better and passed to feet, rather than throwing hopeful balls up the field. It was not long when the Others clawed their way back into the match but only managed to score 2 before half time.

It was in the 2nd half that the Others seemed to use their experience to good effect, clawing their way back to 4-4, with goals from Choon Heng and Kevin. Kee Min then put the Others 5-4 up but the Whites started to come back, with 2 goals, leading again at 6-5. Play seemed very even and as players started to tire, more goals were scored until it was tied again at 8-8. With minutes remaining, both teams played for the winning goal and it appeared that Kee Min had to win it for the Others but shot over the bar with the goal wide open. He was however, not to be undone when he stole the ball in midfield and dribbled his way to score the final goal of Soccer Fellowship 2011.
