Above-23s .vs. Under-23s [29th September]
The PMC Soccer Team will play an internal match this Saturday for Coach William to take a look at players, some for the first time. The Above-23s will take on the Under-23s @ Springfield in a refereed match. The game will kick off at 3pm and should be a thriller!

Friendly Match Report .vs. APB [22nd September]
It was a fiercely hot afternoon, but being soccer enthusiasts, the team gathered on time to prepare for the friendly against Asia Pacific Breweries. It was also very heartening to see the under-23s coming to support the seniors for this match. The seniors would like to record their appreciation to Daniel Low, Jingzhong, Damien, Sheldon, Isaac and Daniel Chia who came down to lend their presence and voices.
It was strange that at 315pm, the referee had not turned up, and it was only after a phone call that we found out he had forgot about the match and was engaged at work. However Sheldon (1st half) and Mark (2nd half) played the role of referee to the best of the ability and managed to keep the match flowing as much as they could. Their efforts were greatly appreciated!
Coach William had the opportunity to meet the team for some brief introductions and had some opening words to say about attire, warm-ups and team work. It looks like there will be some expectations set in the near future where these matters are concerned. Other than that, he took an observational role as the first half was played.
PMC started the match very brightly and the first opportunity to score fell to Justin. However, he shot tamely at the on-rushing APB goalkeeper. Nonetheless, it wasn't long before PMC did find the back of the net. A quick move than the right wing found Timothy in space and he drove the ball into the net at the near post, pass the helpless APB keeper. The PMC players were glad to have made a very positive start to the match and continued to press for more goals, but the forwards were well-marked and did not have many opportunities during the half. Midfield play was generally positive with Ronnie showing some good moves and touches and the forwards did try their best to open up the defence. The play went back and forth with some periods of action, but both goalkeepers proved themselves worthy to play between the sticks. Kris especially, showed a safe pair of hands whenever he needed to parry of smother a shot. The half ended without any further goals.
During the half-time break, William took the opportunity to comment on the performance of all the players. He particularly singled out the defence for a job well done and commented that the midfielders needed to control the match more from the centre of the pitch. As for the forwards, they needed to be more mobile.
With those comments, a new look team for the 2nd half took to the field to finish the match. It wasn't long before PMC was up 2-0. Another move down the right between Bangshi, Justin and Glenn, gave Timothy some space down the byline who took the ball all the way into the 6-yard box to fire the ball into the roof of the net. Timothy looked lively and was looking for his 1st hat-trick for PMC. That came soon enough when a through ball from midfield found him with only the APB keeper to beat and he made no mistake by lifting the ball into the net. Timothy is making a strong case to be a permanent forward in the team! Being 3-0 down, APB started to pull some strings from midfield and attack down PMC's left flank. Their efforts paid dividends when a through ball found its way to a forward (appearing to be offside!) who drove the ball pass Kris. With wind in their sails, they pressed for another goal and through a move from a corner, managed to fire a shot through a wall of players into the PMC goal. With the score at 3-2, and the tide appearing to turn, PMC pressed for a goal to put the match away. A lofted ball from the right found Glenn in some space, who flicked the ball over the on-rushing APB keeper to put PMC up 4-2. With the game in the bag, PMC sought to control the match and let it end on this scoreline, which it did.
The post-match briefing by William focused a great deal on positioning and communication between team-mates. Overall, it was a positive outing for the team and an opportunity for coach and players to start to get to know one another.

Soccer Fellowship Report [15th September]
The early morning showers on Saturday morning brought much hope that the Springfield pitch was going to be nice and soft. Alas, the pitch showed much resilience, especially in the middle portions, which were still rather hard and sandy. Nonetheless, the weather was really fine when players started to gather and we thank God for that. Kevin shared a devotion on having balance in our lives. Instead of working or studying all the time, to the neglect of family, friends and health, God encourages us to have a balance in what we do and to make time to relax and exercise.
The match started with 10 players on each side. Both the Blues and Whites looked very balanced and all the players knew that it would be an exciting match ahead. That certainly turned out to be the case with much attacking play from both sides. It was the Blues that took the 1st initiative, Jingzhong pouncing on some lax White defending to put the Blues 1-0 up. Before the Whites could recover, Choon Heng eluded both Kevin and Samuel Eyo to put the Blues 2-0 up. It wasn't until some pressure and a moment of magic from Ronnie's right boot that saw the Whites pulling 1 back through a long range curler from midfield. Alas, the Whites defensive play let them down again when they gave the ball away at the edge of the box for Damien to strike a sweet shot with his left foot into the corner of the net. With time winding down in the 1st half, the Whites managed to win a corner and with the last kick of the game, Darren pulled another back for the Whites when the Blues couldn't clear the ball from the corner.
With the score 3-2 at the half, it was going to be anybody's game. The 2nd half saw both sides strengthened with 1 player each, making it an 11-a-side match. The Whites started the match more hungry but it was the Blues again that took the initiative early on. Another defensive inadequacy allowed Jeremy Tan to steal the ball from the hands of goalkeeper Mike Chua to prod the ball home for a 4-2 lead. The Whites had to focus and managed to level things when an intelligent move from a corner saw John head the ball into the net to make the score 4-3. Soon, the Whites pulled level with another swift move and Kee Min ending it by striking the ball past Blues keeper Joel. With the score at 4-4, things were really getting competitive. Unfortunately for the Whites, they had to play the rest of the half with one player less when Errol limped off with a calf problem. With a player short in midfield, the Blues capitalised and from a speedy move down the wing, Jingzhong shot the Blues up 5-4. Undeterred, the Whites fought back again and managed to level through another John goal. At 5-5 and time expiring, the Whites tried to win the match but more than a few attempts flew narrowly wide. It was thus left to the Blues to capitalise- Choon Heng shooting into an unguarded net when Mike Chua was in conversation with Daniel while the ball was still in play! Try as they did, the Whites could not find their way back into the match this time and not even a corner with all 10 players up saw another equaliser. Final score-

The session will be from 3 - 5 pm.
This week, the leaders will pick the teams OLD SKOOL style, one at a time from the group that turns up on the day itself so please bring BOTH a BLUE and WHITE jersey. If we can form more than 3 teams, then we will play round-robin style.
Do come on time for devotion before play starts!
Please pray for good weather! See you there.

Introducing our new Soccer Team coach!
On behalf of the leaders, I am proud to announce that our Soccer Team is taking its next step forward in the right direction. After gathering a solid core of players and some respectable performances this year, we really want to move forward to make next year as successful as possible within the goals of our Soccer Community. We have received much feedback from players and we take every comment seriously. We realise that to do well, not only do we need to get to know one another on and off the field and play regularly, but we also need someone with the skills and experience to guide the team tactically and train us. We would like to thank Glenn & Sheldon who have led us this year and continue to look forward to playing with them.
To move forward, I would like to introduce William Seah as our Head Coach for the this coming year. William comes to us with plenty of experience, both as a player and as a coach. As a player for Jurong Football Club from 1984 – 1990, William played in every division within our Singapore league, including as a professional in the Premier League (before the S-league’s inception). He has league championship medals from Division 1, 2 and 3 and finished 3rd with Jurong Football Club in the first season of the Premier League. He also has a President’s Cup Championship medal to round up his collection. As a coach, William possesses an Asian Football Confederation ‘B’ license and is certified to coach at all league levels up to S-league. He has coached NFL Division 1 and 2 teams after his playing career ended. Most importantly, William is a member of our church who will do his best to balance our competitive desire with the goals of being good witnesses and developing character on and off the field.
The leaders have given William the autonomy to build up his team to assist him in managing and developing the team. In time, William may appoint some assistants from among the players and will also select his team captain and vice-captain. I encourage all of us to give William our full support, and to get to know him even as he starts his coaching role with us.

Soccer Community Framework
Click on the image to read the PMC Soccer Community framework that was shared at the PMC Cup 2007 Dinner. As mentioned, Soccer Fellowship is really the cornerstone of the Community, with the PMC Cup as an annual affair and the Soccer Team as our competitive department.

MWS Tournament 2007 Report
The MWS Tournament took place yesterday at the AR-JAS Sports Centre along West Coast Road. Both Teams A & B arrived bright and early at about 730am to make sure they had a car park lot and to get ready for a long day of soccer. Everyone was enthusiastic and looking forward to the intense competition and fellowship.
After opening in prayer and a few words from the 'wealthy' sponsor, the tournament got underway. The fortunes of both teams turned out to be quite similar, with a loss and draw in the first 2 matches. However, it was Team A that actually scored 1st, even though it was an own goal by Captain Maurice!
The results of both teams only started to turn after the mid-point of the group matches, with Team A scoring a 1-0 win over Bedok Methodist Church and Team B winning against Faith Methodist Church 2-1. Even with these victories and some good results towards the end of the group stage, neither team managed to qualify for the quarter-finals, with Team B missing out narrowly by just 1 point.
We would like to thank all PMC Soccer Team members that participated in the tournament and invited friends- Kee Min, Neng Hao, Andy, David Sng, Song, Albert and Alex, for contributing. It was great playing soccer together for almost the whole of Saturday!
