The 5th edition of the PMC Cup happens this Saturday, 30th October at Sports Planet East Coast. The event this year will truly close the 2010 season for us as we have been told by Sports Council that the fields we usually book are not available for the rest of the year. As such, we hope that all those participating in the PMC Cup this Saturday will take the opportunity to have fun, enjoy one another's company and end the year on a positive note. For those who are not playing, you are more than welcome to join us for the BBQ @ Pits C28 & C29 from 6pm.
Let's pray for good weather (no rain, no haze!) this Saturday, as we celebrate the end of the Soccer Community's 2010 season.

Futsal Fellowship Report [23rd October]
The weather was hot and slightly hazy (PSI below 100), but according to Mark Leong (who took Kevin's place in the Gold team), everyone 'played football and it was hot and ended up all tired. We didn't keep score'.

Futsal Fellowship [23rd October]
Futsal Fellowship is on this Saturday, 23rd October 2010 from 3 - 5pm (preliminary booking).
Unlike Soccer Fellowship, reservation of places is required due to the increased cost of booking and co-payment for the pitches (cost will be subsidised $25/h by PMC Soccer Community). Each player's share would be between $5 - $8 depending on the actual number registered. Once reservations are confirmed, they will need to be honoured (which means if you AWOL without finding a replacement, you will still have to pay for your share of the session).
We hope to keep the 2h booking and have 3 teams sign-up for play this Sunday. It would be good practice if you could sign up as a team, and come in the same jersey colour.
To register, please leave a comment on this blog post. Registrations will be confirmed by 21st October Thursday so that changes can be made to the pitch booking if necessary. If there are fewer than 10 players by 21st October, the session will be cancelled.

Soccer Fellowship Report [16th October]
In the buildup to PMC Cup 2010, soccer fellowship shifted to Sports Planet this week and next week for teams to condition themselves to the competitive venue. Its probably the change in venue to East Coast Park that saw much of the players turning up pretty late.
The initial arranged teams did not play as per listed in the email. A mixture of 8 players hit the pitch first before the rest of the players slowly trickle into Sports Planet. It wasnt long before the clear 3 teams can be seen, namely 'whites', 'reds' and 'other colour'.
The artificial pitch proved much challenge initially for everyone, as players tries to get used to the ground. Within the first 10 minutes, 2 soccer boots gave way, with Keemin subsequently withdrawing while Nigel chose to play with 1 boot on only.
Afew queries arises as not everyone were clear with rules thats will be inplace for the PMC cup. Questions such as the backline being 'out' or not, can players enter the 'semi-D', any corner kicks, can the goalkeeper come out of semi-D but not use hands etc. Just for this game, we played with the backline as 'out' with corner kicks, no players can enter the semi-D, and goalkeeper not to exit the semi-D. Time for everyone to go back and read the Rules!
With 3 teams rotating non-stop for about 1 and half-hour, everyone was really pushed to the limits physically as we tried to keep running, while rotating tired players to the post. Of the 3 teams, the Whites manage to stay on the pitch for quite along time, largely due to them always playing together in the past fellowship games and thus the understanding and bonding.
Overall it was a good runout for all 17 players who turned out. Definitely much work to be done, tactically and physically, if any of us are going to snatch the trophy away from last year's champion. At least thats what i thought, based on the little memories still in my mind of how last year's champion tormented my team!

Based on experience, we will use the following guidelines to book the number of hours/pitches-
1. Up to 12 players (2 teams) - 1h on 1 pitch
2. Up to 18 players (3 teams) - 2h on 1 pitch
3. Up to 24 players (4 teams) - 1h on 2 pitches OR 2h on 1 pitch

Soccer Fellowship Report [9th October]
It was another bright and sunny (some said too sunny!) day that greeted players as they turned up at East Spring Secondary School for Soccer Fellowship. It had been a while since we used this field, but the condition was still reasonable, although certain patches were dry and botak!
Maurice started off with a time of devotion before the 17 players were split into teams of Darks (Blue/Black) and Lights (White/Red/Organge). Due to the numbers, we again played full-field without GKs, which facilitated good possession and ball control.
From kickoff, it looked like it was the Darks who were going to runaway with the match. They kept the ball well, passed it round and created many early chances through the work of Ronnie, Daniel Low and Kee Min. The Lights on the other hand, found it difficult to move the ball out of their own half, giving it away after 1 or 2 passes. It was thus no surprise that the Darks were 3-0 up in no time, with goals from Daniel Low, Jingzhong and John. It was only then that the Lights were kicked into action and tried to keep the ball better. Most of the attacks from the Lights came down the wings, with Yi Jun grabbing a brace and then Bryan. The rest of the 1st half was quite even, with scores at 4-4 and then 5-5. With half-time approaching, the last goal scored sent us into the break, and this was by Marcus who ran almost the full length of the field to meet John's long pass to tap into an empty net.
After a quick break and with some players calling it a day, we used the 7-a-side goalposts for the rest of the afternoon. Again, it was the Darks that were calling the shots (quite literally) with good ball/player movement. Again, they were up 3-0 in no time with Ronnie, Daniel and Marcus on the scoresheet. The last goal of the game however, was scored by the Lights, with Joel finding the net from a long way out after a quick counter attack.
Kevin closed the session in prayer, thanking God for the wonderful weather and injury-free Soccer Fellowship. Next up - Futsal Fellowship.

Interest in PMC Cup 2010 has been overwhelming to say the least. It is good to see that the tournament is attracting participation from all the age groups in our PMC Soccer Community and beyond. The following teams have registered (as of 6th Oct 2010). I have included the team name (if available), name of Captain and Jersey Colours chosen:

Soccer Fellowship Report [2nd October]
The weather was all clear for Soccer Fellowship after last week was washed out due to the thunderstorm. Kevin started off the session with a time of devotion, encouraging everyone that we all have potential in us, even if we don't see it in our present circumstances. Using the life of Joe Montana as an example, Kevin illustrated how the road to success can sometimes be a long one, requiring lots of hard work and faith in one's potential.
Initially, 15 players had turned up but by 330pm, there were 18 in total for a 9-a-side game to ensue. No GKs were appointed and scoring was limited to the 6-yard box, so the emphasis on ball control and passing. The teams were split as Whites and Colours.
From the outset, it seemed that the Colours were going to have the Lion's Share of possession during the match, with good ball movement and passing to feet. For at least the first 10min, the Whites were camped in their own half, defending very deeply in order to prevent the Colours from scoring. This did not happen, as the Whites were down 2-0 quite quickly, with Choon Heng scoring 1 of these. It took some change in strategy before the Whites got out of their own half, but most of the time, the ball wouldn't make it to the final third of the field for them. A mix-up from a hand-ball incident allowed the Colours to make it 3-0 quite comfortably, Yi Jun tapping into an empty net. Before long, it was 4-0 to the Colours, with Jeremy sidefooting the ball into the net after being left unmarked during a corner. Although the Whites managed to get 1 back through Adrian after Daniel's long ball, half-time came with Colours well up at 4-1.
The 2nd half commenced with the Whites determined to get back into the match. Some changes in positions sought to do this, but to some degree it backfired as the Colours got a number of early goals through Kee Min and Ronnie. The Whites did manage to pull a couple of goals back but each time they did, the Colours scored another. Colours led all the way until the final goal of the game when Marcus scored after being left unmarked in the 6-yard box.
Final score - Colours 10 .vs. 5 Whites
